Paul(right) and Raymond Mungo and writer Kurt Vonnegut...this photo happened when Paul went to interview him I think. We were living with Raymond in third floor of loft, I was pregnant with our first son Kenta, 77 Franklin St. near Canal St.

ReplyDeleteI also want to send my regards, as I consider Paul to be one of the finest music writers ever. His books on Bob Dylan are unique in their understanding of Bob's music. I met Paul now and then on the road and at Dylan conventions, and I sure miss the man.

Paul had met Vonnegut before. He and I were deep Vonnegut fans from the early 60s onward. Paul went to Swarthmore with Mark Vonnegut and if I recall correctly got to meet Mark's dad.

DeleteWhen I was going through Pauls books and papers with Jonathan Lethem last week, I came across a handwritten letter from Mark Vonnegut. I sent it on to the gallery thinking it might be of interest in the display, especially with the inscribed copy of "God Bless You Dr. Kevorkian" which reads something like "To Paul Williams-my best friend in the universe"

And if you happen to have a copy of Paul's book "Love To Burn: Neil Young" bring it as it's the one book of his we are missing from the collection

No Neil Young, but I have my original paperback first edition of "Outlaw Blues" bought at its list price of 95 cents, meaning I've owned it for 42 years and still enjoy it. I just RSVP'd to the gallery so I definitely plan to be there.--Wayne
